Medano Beach
Best for. Swimmers and sociable travellers who want the one reliably safe swimming beach in Cabo San Lucas, with beach clubs, watersports and a lively scene close to the marina and town.
Best spot. An early morning swim in the calm bay water before the vendors and music start, or a lounger at a beach club like Mango Deck when you want the full, loud Medano day.
Know this. Medano is the busy, commercial heart of Cabo, not a quiet retreat, with near constant vendors, jet skis and music by midday, so come at dawn for calm or embrace the scene, and treat club prices as to be confirmed.
Cabo San Lucas sells the desert meeting the sea, but most of its dramatic Pacific beaches are unswimmable, torn by current and shore break. Medano is the exception and the reason it is always busy. This wide golden sweep curves around the sheltered bay from the marina toward Villa del Palmar, and it is the one reliably safe swimming beach in town. It is also the loudest, a full commercial strip of beach clubs, vendors and watercraft, so it delivers a lively day at the sea rather than a quiet one, and it helps to know that before you arrive.
There is a calm version of Medano, and it happens early. Come at dawn and the bay is glassy, the sand is quiet, and you can have a long, easy swim in genuinely gentle water with the rock arch of Land's End in view, before the first jet ski fires up. It is a lovely, restorative hour and the antidote to the beach's reputation. As the morning builds, the other Medano takes over, the one of daybeds, music and vendors passing every few minutes, and the beach clubs come into their own, with Mango Deck the most iconic among a long line of them for those who want the party rather than the peace.
The honest read is simply about timing and taste. If your idea of a beach is silence and space, Medano at midday will not give it to you, and the quieter, wilder beaches sit elsewhere around Los Cabos. But if you want a safe swim, a sociable scene and everything on tap, this is the beach to be on, and the trick is to choose your hour. Swim early for calm, book a club by day for the energy, and treat the specific prices, minimum spends and opening times as to be confirmed, since they change with the season and the venue.
The beach club heart of Cabo
Medano is wall to wall beach clubs and watersports. It is the one Los Cabos beach where a serviced day is the whole point.
Unlike most of our beaches, Medano is defined by its club layer. A long line of beach clubs, bars and restaurants runs the length of the sand, with Mango Deck the most iconic among them, and the day beds, music and food and drink are the reason many people come. Between them, operators hire out jet skis, parasailing, paddleboards and kayaks. The trade off is that the beach is loud and commercial by day, so if you want quiet you swim early and let the clubs have the afternoon. Prices, minimum spends and opening hours vary by venue and season and are to be confirmed. Our Los Cabos beach clubs guide sets out which Medano venues are worth your day.
On the bay, steps from the marina
Medano curves around Cabo San Lucas bay, immediately northeast of the marina and walkable from most of the town centre and the marina hotels in 10 to 20 minutes. Taxis are plentiful, and many beach clubs sit right on the sand with their own access. There is no gate or fee to reach the beach itself, only to use a club's loungers and facilities.
Come at dawn for the calmest, quietest swim, and carry water and sun cover since shade means a club or a rented umbrella. Expect a steady stream of vendors, and a firm, friendly no is normal if you are not buying. Keep children close and stay in the marked swimming areas away from the jet ski and boat lanes, as the bay traffic is the real hazard here rather than the surf.

Common questions about Medano Beach
Where is Medano Beach and how do you get there?
Medano Beach curves around Cabo San Lucas bay, just northeast of the marina, and is walkable from most of the town and marina hotels in 10 to 20 minutes. Taxis are plentiful, and many beach clubs have their own access straight onto the sand. The beach is free and public, with charges only for loungers and club facilities.
Is Medano Beach safe for swimming?
Medano is the main safe swimming beach in Cabo San Lucas, sheltered inside the bay with typically calm water, unlike the dangerous Pacific surf beaches nearby. The bigger hazard is the heavy jet ski and boat traffic, so stay in the marked swimming zones, keep children close and judge the day yourself, since we describe typical conditions only and make no safety promise.
What beach clubs are on Medano Beach?
Medano is lined with beach clubs, bars and restaurants along its length, and Mango Deck is the best known and most iconic among them. Each sets its own day bed prices, minimum spends and hours, and these change with the season, so treat any figure as to be confirmed and book ahead for busy periods and weekends.
How do you avoid the crowds and vendors at Medano?
Timing is everything. Early morning is calm, quiet and cool, with gentle water and few vendors, and it is the best time for a real swim. From late morning the beach fills with sunbathers, jet skis, music and a steady stream of vendors, so if you want peace, come at dawn, and if you want the scene, arrive later and settle into a club.
When is the best time to visit Medano Beach?
The cooler, drier months from October to June bring the most comfortable weather and the calmest water. Late summer is hot and humid and falls within the hurricane season, so watch the forecast. On any given day, early morning is the sweet spot for a calm swim before the beach turns busy and loud.
