June Juea Bay is the Koh Tao beach you reach when you are willing to leave the crowd behind, and that effort is the reward. Tucked on the southwest of the island, it is possibly the most remote and one of the smallest bays on Koh Tao, a quiet pocket of pale sand and granite boulders that short stay visitors rarely reach. While Sairee and Mae Haad hum with bars and dive shops, June Juea keeps a slow, unhurried feel, the sort of place where you can lay a towel and hear little more than the water and the trees.
The draw for me is the snorkeling and the ease of it. Scattered granite rocks sit just off the sand in relatively shallow water, so you can wade straight in and be over reef within moments, which makes this a genuinely good spot for newer snorkelers. Swim northwest toward the Cape Je Ta Kang headland and the underwater life grows richer, with the chance of a shy hawksbill turtle passing through. Above the sand, the Pinnacle resort keeps a restaurant and terrace looking out over the water, a fine place to rest between swims without breaking the quiet mood of the bay.
The honest caveats are about access and exposure. Reaching June Juea means a walk of around twenty minutes from Chalok Baan Kao, a coastal path from Sai Nuan, or a steep concrete scooter road, none of them hard but none of them a drive to the door, so allow time and wear proper shoes. The bay is fairly open, so the sea is not always glassy, and there is no lifeguard, which means you should check conditions, keep clear of the rocks in any swell, and swim within your depth. Facilities are simple, so bring water, sun cover and reef safe products, and take your rubbish out.
Come to June Juea for the remote calm and the easy reef, then round out Koh Tao elsewhere. For the island's long main beach and its sunsets go to Sairee Beach, for a sheltered east coast snorkel bay try Tanote Bay, and for another quiet swim see Freedom Beach. June Juea is a remote bay with a few family run bungalows and the Pinnacle resort rather than a built beach club, and we will not invent one. The resort restaurant and terrace look out over the water and serve as the bay's place to eat and drink, which suits its quiet mood. For loungers and larger venues, use the busier Koh Tao beaches and the club directory.

Come for the remote calm and the granite reef, bring your own water and shade for the walk in, and treat the terrace as your break between swims. For loungers and larger venues, browse the Koh Tao beach clubs directory and the busier beaches.
June Juea Bay is on the southwest of Koh Tao, reached on foot in about twenty minutes from Chalok Baan Kao, along the coastal path from Sai Nuan, or by a steep concrete road if you are on a scooter. None of the routes is difficult, but none delivers you to the door, so allow time, wear shoes you can walk the trail in, and take the scooter road slowly as it is steep.
Because facilities are limited to a few bungalows and the resort terrace, bring water, sun cover and reef safe products, and carry everything back out. Snorkel over the granite rocks off the sand and toward Cape Je Ta Kang for more reef, keep your distance from any turtles, check the conditions since the bay is open, and swim within your depth as there is no lifeguard. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed.

By a short walk or a steep scooter road on the southwest of Koh Tao. Most people walk in about twenty minutes from Chalok Baan Kao, or continue the coastal path from Sai Nuan, while a steep concrete road drops down to the bay for those on a scooter. The remoteness is the whole point, so allow time and wear shoes you can walk the trail in.
Yes, it is one of the more beginner friendly snorkel spots on Koh Tao. Scattered granite rocks off the beach hold fish in relatively shallow water, and you can wade in straight from the sand, then swim northwest toward Cape Je Ta Kang where the reef life is richer. Hawksbill turtles are sometimes seen but are shy, so keep your distance, and check conditions first as the bay is fairly open.
No, it is one of the quietest beaches on the island. June Juea is possibly the most remote and one of the smallest bays on Koh Tao, often skipped by short stay visitors, so it makes an easy escape from the busier sands at Sairee and Mae Haad. Come for the calm and the space, and be ready for very simple facilities.
No built beach club, and we will not invent one. The bay has a few family run bungalows and the Pinnacle resort, whose restaurant and terrace look out over the water, rather than a row of day beds. Treat that terrace as your table and drinks stop, and for larger venues use the busier Koh Tao beaches and the club directory.
The drier, calmer months from around February to September usually bring the clearest water and the best snorkeling, while the monsoon around October to December is wetter with a bigger, rougher sea. Since the bay is fairly open, check the conditions on the day and swim within your depth, as there is no lifeguard.
