Adrasan or Cirali Beach: Which Antalya Shore Wins
Published 2026-08-19. Conditions described are typical and never guaranteed.
Here is the short answer before you scroll. If you want the calmest possible water and a sleepy village that feels like a private base, choose Adrasan Beach. If you want a long, green, low key shore with tree shade behind the sand and ancient ruins next door for an afternoon out, choose Cirali Beach. Both sit on the same beautiful Olympos stretch of the Lycian coast, both are free and public, and both are a long drive south of Antalya city rather than a quick outing from town. Neither is a resort. Neither has confirmed lifeguard cover. The choice between them is really a choice between two moods of the same quiet coastline.
I want to be straight about that from the start, because plenty of guides pretend these two are wildly different. They are not. They are neighbours in temperament as much as geography. What separates them is the feel underfoot, the exact quality of the calm, and what waits behind the sand when the children have had enough of paddling.
Who Adrasan is for
Adrasan suits families chasing the gentlest swim on this coast. The bay is a long crescent hemmed by high mountains on both sides, and that natural shelter is the whole point: the sea here usually stays as calm as a lake, and the entry shelves gently rather than dropping away. If you have a cautious paddler, a nervous swimmer, or simply want water that does not surprise you, this is one of the kinder stretches you will find near Antalya.
The sand is soft sand mixed with fine pebble, easy on a mat or a lounger and comfortable underfoot for most of us, though I would still pack water shoes for small feet at the waterline. The setup behind the sand is refreshingly modest: small pensions and restaurants, loungers and umbrellas to hire in front of the village, and long open runs of sand where you can just lay your own towel. Daily boat trips leave the bay for hidden coves and the island of Suluada, which is a lovely way to spend a morning if the children tire of the shallows.
The honest catch is distance. Adrasan is a small village in a nature reserve roughly 90km from the city along a winding coastal road, so it makes far more sense as a restful base than as a day you drive to and from. It rewards families who are already staying on the Olympos and Cirali stretch. Treat it as a place to slow down for a few days, not a place to tick off in an afternoon.
Best months are June and September, when the water is warm and calm and the small village has not yet filled. In August the loungers go early and the drive in is at its busiest on a summer weekend.
Who Cirali is for
Cirali suits families who want a long, quiet, low key day with the same calm shelter but a little more to do. The water is clear and gently shelving and usually calm in the sheltered bay on a still morning, which puts it right alongside Adrasan for a careful paddle close to shore. What tips some families here is the setting: small pensions, cafes and citrus gardens sit a few steps behind the sand, and there is welcome natural shade from trees along parts of the shore, which is genuinely rare and genuinely useful with young children in high summer.
The trade you accept is texture. Cirali is pebble and coarse sand rather than soft sand, firm underfoot even if it is comfortable enough once you are settled on a mat. Water shoes are not optional here; bring them for the whole family so the walk to the water is easy. The beach stays gloriously undeveloped for a good reason: it is a protected loggerhead turtle nesting beach. That protection is why there are no big resorts, and it asks something back from you. Through the nesting season from late spring, visitors are asked to avoid marked nests and keep the shore dark and quiet at night.
The other reason to lean Cirali is the outing next door. The ruins of ancient Olympos and the natural Chimaera flames are within reach, and many families base themselves on the easier sand at Cirali and visit those as day outings. If your children like a bit of adventure between swims, that combination is hard to beat.
The head to head, feature by feature
Sand underfoot
This is the clearest difference. Adrasan gives you soft sand mixed with fine pebble, the gentler of the two on bare feet. Cirali is firmer, grey pebble and coarse sand that wants water shoes. If your priority is a beach the children can flop onto without complaint, Adrasan edges it. Neither is the pale, soft, buildable sand you would find much further east at Cleopatra Beach in Alanya, and that is fine: you are not coming to this coast for sandcastles, you are coming for the calm and the quiet.
The water
Both are among the gentlest stretches on the coast, and honestly it is close. Adrasan has the stronger reputation for stillness because those high mountains wrap the bay so tightly, so on a breezy day when other beaches ripple, Adrasan often stays flat. Cirali is calm too but a touch more open. If dead calm water is the single thing you are optimising for, Adrasan wins. On a still morning the pair are hard to separate.
One thing applies to both and I will not soften it: we cannot confirm lifeguard cover at either beach. The sheltered water is reassuring, but it is unpatrolled. Keep young children close, judge the sea for yourselves on the day, and do not treat calm as a safety promise.
Facilities and shade
Both keep things low key with pensions, cafes or restaurants and some sunbeds and umbrellas to hire. Cirali has the advantage that matters most in July heat: natural tree shade along parts of the sand. Adrasan leans on hired umbrellas and the restaurants behind the beach. If you are travelling with little ones who wilt in the midday sun and you would rather not depend on booking a shaded front row, Cirali gives you a cooler fallback.
Crowd and pace
Both are quiet by the standards of this coast, and both fill in August. Adrasan is the smaller, sleepier of the two, which is a virtue if you want near solitude and a slight drawback if you want a village with a bit more life around it. Cirali feels a fraction more like a place with things happening, thanks to the ruins nearby and the steady trickle of travellers doing the Lycian route.
When the other one wins
Say you have booked Adrasan for its famous calm but you are travelling in the hottest part of summer with a toddler who cannot cope with open sun. In that case Cirali quietly wins, because the tree shade behind the sand solves a problem Adrasan cannot, and the paddle is nearly as gentle.
Now flip it. Say you chose Cirali for the ruins and the shade, but a stiff onshore breeze has come up and you simply want water that does not move. Adrasan wins that day, because its mountain sheltered bay tends to stay glassy when the wider coast turns choppy.
And there is a third case where neither is the right answer. If you have confident older swimmers who want a jaw dropping cove and do not mind a steep staircase and deeper, cooler water, point the car instead at Kaputas Beach further along the coast. If you would rather have a Blue Flag bay with a shaded park and a children's playground right behind the sand, Kemer Beach is the easier, better equipped choice closer to the city. Both of those are covered in our family beach picks if you are weighing the whole coast.
My verdict
For the gentlest, stillest swim and the sleepiest village base, Adrasan. For the longer, greener day with tree shade and the Olympos ruins as a ready made outing, Cirali. Couples after a slow, romantic stretch away from the crowds will find either works, and our notes for couples and the wider quiet shore guide can help you decide. Whichever you pick, aim for June or September and keep an eye on our seasonal timing guide, because both beaches are at their gentle best either side of the August peak.
Planning a club day in Antalya
Adrasan and Cirali are village beaches rather than club beaches, so if you also want a sunbed, service and a booked day by the water elsewhere on the coast, browse our Antalya beach clubs to compare options and enquire about a day.
