Bali is bigger and more varied than a week can hold, so a beach focused trip means staying in the south and letting the coast change character around you rather than chasing the whole island. This route reads the light through the day, the soft morning glow on the surf sand of Seminyak and Canggu, the hard white glare on the limestone cliffs of the Bukit peninsula at midday, and the gentle dusk over the calm eastern water at Sanur. Each base is a short drive from the last, so you move once or twice and let each stretch of coast do its own thing.
The honest planning note is to respect the traffic and the surf. Distances on the map are short but the roads are slow, so a day driver earns its modest cost when you change base, and the famous cliff beaches are surf beaches first, beautiful to look at and sometimes tricky to swim. Build the week around that and Bali gives you the full range, party sand and quiet bays, dramatic cliffs and easy family swims, all inside one island. The route, day by day

|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Seminyak | Land, settle and ease in with a first sunset on the sand. |
| Days 2 to 3 | Canggu | Surf beaches, cafes and beach clubs along Batu Bolong and Berawa. |
| Days 4 to 5 | Uluwatu and the Bukit | The dramatic cliff beaches at Padang Padang, Bingin and Balangan. |

| Day 7 | Sanur and a Nusa Penida day | Quiet eastern water and a boat across to the cliffs of Nusa Penida. |
Conditions are typical and never guaranteed. Prices and opening details should be confirmed at the time of booking.
Day 1, Seminyak
Fly in, drop the bags and let the first day be gentle. Seminyak is the polished face of the southwest, a long grey gold surf beach lined with loungers and bars where the whole strip turns out for the sunset. It is the soft landing, a first swim, a sundowner and an early night before the week opens up. Browse the best beach clubs in Bali if you want to book a lounger ahead.
Days 2 to 3, Canggu
Move ten minutes up the coast to Canggu, the island's creative heart, where the black sand of Batu Bolong and Echo Beach draws surfers at dawn and a cafe and beach club crowd by afternoon. The light here is moodier and the texture coarser, volcanic sand and a sky full of kites, and the days run on long breakfasts, a surf lesson and a sunset beer with your feet in the sand at Berawa.
Days 4 to 5, Uluwatu and the Bukit
Drive south onto the Bukit peninsula, where the island changes completely, dry limestone cliffs dropping to hidden coves of brilliant white sand. Padang Padang is the jewel box cove reached through a cleft in the rock, Bingin tumbles down the cliff in warung steps and Balangan stretches long and golden below the headland. These are surf beaches first, so swim with care, and stay up top for the famous clifftop sunset above the Uluwatu temple.
Day 6, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua
Swap drama for calm on the sheltered eastern side of the peninsula. Jimbaran curves around a quiet bay famous for its seafood grills on the sand at dusk, while Nusa Dua and the little cove at Geger offer the easiest swimming of the week, clear and gentle, ideal if you are travelling with children.
Day 7, Sanur and a Nusa Penida day
End on the east coast at Sanur, the island's original beach town, where a long calm lagoon and a seafront path make for an unhurried last morning. From its harbour a fast boat runs across to Nusa Penida, so you can spend a final day among its cliffs and turquoise coves before flying home. If you are still weighing islands, our Gili Islands vs Nusa Penida guide helps you choose.
How to plan it, and where to save
The smart move is to base in two or three places rather than one, so you wake up near the beaches you want that day and skip long daily drives. A private driver for the day is inexpensive in Bali and the easy way to shift regions with luggage, while a scooter suits short local hops once you are settled, if the traffic does not faze you. Allow more time than any distance suggests, because the roads through the south are slow.
What to save on. Eat at the warungs a street back from the beachfront, where the food is better and a fraction of the price, and treat one polished beach club day as a deliberate splurge rather than the default. Many beaches keep free public sand beside the paid loungers, so you can swim and watch the sunset without a minimum spend. Plan it properly
Is one week enough for Bali's beaches?
Yes, for the south. This route covers the surf towns of the southwest, the cliff beaches of the Bukit peninsula and the calm bays of the east without rushing, which is far more rewarding than trying to circle the whole island in seven days.
Where should you base yourself in Bali for a beach trip?
Two bases work best for a week. Stay first in Seminyak or Canggu for the lively surf beaches and beach clubs, then move down to the Bukit peninsula around Uluwatu for the dramatic cliff beaches. Sanur or Nusa Dua suits anyone who wants calm water and an easy family base.
Which are the best beaches in Bali?
For sunset scene and surf, Seminyak and Canggu. For drama, the Bukit cliffs at Padang Padang, Bingin and Balangan. For calm swimming, Nusa Dua, Geger and Sanur. The point of this route is that it strings the different kinds together rather than picking just one.
Do you need a driver or scooter in Bali?
Most visitors use a mix. A private driver for the day is inexpensive and easy for moving between regions with luggage, while a scooter suits short hops once you are based, if you are confident in busy traffic. Roads can be congested, so allow more time than the distance suggests.
Can you swim at the Bukit cliff beaches?
Sometimes, and with care. Beaches such as Padang Padang and Bingin are stunning but are surf beaches with rocks, tides and currents, so they suit confident swimmers and surfers more than a casual paddle. For reliable easy swimming, head to Nusa Dua, Geger or Sanur. No beach is ever guaranteed safe, and conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
When is the best time to go to Bali?
The dry season from around April to October brings the most reliable sun, calmest seas and best beach days, with July and August the busiest. The wet season from roughly November to March is greener and quieter with warm showers. See our when to go guide for the detail. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
